The Artist

Jimmy Law was born in Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State, South Africa in September 1970. He is a self-taught artist with a graphic design background, which lead to his tendency to work in a very controlled and precise style. He worked as a freelance illustrator for corporates in Cape Town for a number of years before he finally decided to leave the corporate world and focus more intensely on a career as an artist.

In December of 2010 Jimmy started to work as a full-time professional artist and painter. Jimmy has developed his own style of painting and has a reputation as one of South Africa’s leading contemporary fine art portrait painters. His expressive, bold and engaging large-format paintings, often creates rather dynamic and dramatic images, are now part of art collections worldwide.

“…to give the viewer just enough information and let the viewer fill in the detail. I aim to create energy and life in my work.”
